Guy Arrested After Not Allowing Circuit City to Search His Bag

I read this story on slashdot and it immediately piqued my interest. I'm just going to lift the header info because it describes the story quite well:
"Michael Righi was arrested in Ohio over the weekend after refusing to show his receipt when leaving Circuit City. When the manger and 'loss prevention' employee physically prevented the vehicle he was a passenger in from leaving the parking lot, he called the police, who arrived, searched his bag and found he hadn't stolen anything. The officer then asked for Michael's driver's license, which he declined to provide since he wasn't operating a motor vehicle. The officer then arrested him, and upon finding out Michael was legally right about not having to provide a license, went ahead and charged him with 'obstructing official business' anyways."
Here's a link to Michael's blog and the excruciating story he has to tell.

Are You Creative and Nerdy? You Want $500? Fuck Yeah You Do

There's an article over on Slashdot that I thought many of you may appreciate. Researchers at the University of Maryland (go terps) claim that they have a blueprint for a supercomputer-on-a-chip, one that would rate 100 times faster than current desktop processors. Ok, pretty gay so far. But if you can come up with a name for this technology that sticks... well you may win a fat prize of $500.
So let's review. Lend your time and effort in helping a mediocre university name a promising piece of technology that they will license to one of the world's top 5 companies for a princely sum and earn yourself a cool five hundos for your effort.
Motherfuckers.

Secret Intelligence Messages? Closer Than You Thought, Slick

This is pretty cool.
Head's up from the header:
"Random digits broadcast at little-used frequencies are known to be intelligence agencies broadcasting their secrets in encrypted form. The Post article gives a nice run-down on the truth behind the transmissions, and touches a bit on the odd community that has grown fascinated by them."

I nicked this article from slashdot. It's an absolutely fascinating take on how today's computer culture fosters a sense of human self-awareness that will reduce future ambiguities regarding our present behavior and intentions. No gore, no goatse, but enormously relevant for all of us.
